Meynell Langley is a Regency country house with extensive lawns surrounded by beautiful woodland and rural Derbyshire parkland. It was built in 1805 and continues to be a family home to the present day.
Meynell Langley is set on a rise in the land to the east of Kirk Langley, between Ashbourne and Derby. Guests arriving at Meynell Langley are greeted by open views over country parkland, and lawns bordered by woodland. The pillared front door leads into a galleried Hall with wood panelling, portraits on the walls and a log burning stove. Adjoining the Hall are two distinctive rooms, the light, finely furnished Drawing Room, and the old family library, both licensed for marriage ceremonies.
Meynell Langley provides an outstanding setting for your country wedding. Sunlight pours in through the south facing windows on fine days, while open fires and lamplight create a welcoming atmosphere if you are thinking of a late afternoon or perhaps an autumn ceremony. The house and grounds provide a perfect backdrop for photographs in each season of the year with many classically beautiful settings both outside and indoors. The West Lawn, adjacent to the house, offers a uniquely scenic site for a marquee reception.
We don’t offer wedding packages! You simply hire the venue, and arrange your day yourself. Come to Meynell Langley for part of your wedding day, or for all of it.
You may choose to hold just your ceremony at Meynell Langley, perhaps if you wish to have a reception at home or elsewhere. Up to eighty guests can be accommodated in the Drawing Room, an elegant, airy room with fine views and abundant natural light. For smaller groups the Library offers a dignified yet intimate ceremony room.
If you would like to spend some time at Meynell Langley after your ceremony, before moving to a reception elsewhere, you may choose to serve drinks to your guests while you enjoy the gardens and take photographs.
If you decide to hold your reception at Meynell Langley, there are three ways in which you might like to do this.
• You could have a canapé reception in the house and garden with your choice of caterer serving drinks and food to your guests as they mingle and chat.
• Alternatively you could site a marquee on the lawn to entertain your guests with a full reception.
• Or for small parties of fewer than thirty people you could move to the Dining Room for your caterer to serve a meal.
Whichever part of your day you spend at Meynell Langley you will have exclusive use, and we will do our utmost to ensure that you and your guests feel welcome and have a happy time here. We have been privileged to welcome couples and their families and friends to Meynell Langley for the past few years, and have received many appreciative comments and letters. We offer an alternative to the packages and set formulas offered by hotels, and we know that many people enjoy being able to tailor their wedding celebrations to suit their own preferences.
